What is the futures focused school project? A two day professional learning activity for school leadership teams, designed to assist schools to incorporate futures thinking in their strategic planning. In a futures focused school, there is a capacity and willingness to engage with the future, keep abreast of trends and issues and anticipate their impact on the school. A focus on the future is one aspect of a comprehensive approach to strategy. Who will participate? Principals, school leaders and others from the wider school community including parents. Teams of participants from a school are encouraged to attend. What resources will be available? Participants in the workshops will receive materials including: - Teaching for Uncertain Futures – The Open Book Scenarios, a project exploring possible futures for teaching
- DVD of interviews and case studies about futures focused work in schools
- Outline of a futures focused school
- Indicators of a futures focused school
Workshop Fee Cost per participant is $250. A 10% discount for schools sending 3 or more participants. What will the workshops achieve? From the two day workshops, participants will: - gain an understanding of the forces in society shaping the
nature of schools - see exemplary approaches to creating and sustaining a futures focused school
- explore responses at the school level to a range of plausible scenarios
- examine structures, processes, roles and responsibilities in
a futures focused school - prepare a plan for a futures focused school
